Graphene microchips could make your phones and laptops thousands of times faster
- ryan-duve 6y agoI have not touched graphene since I "mechanically exfoliated" it in a lab in 2009. Read: rubbed scotch tape on a graphite flake with a pencil's eraser and then rubbed it on a silicon wafer after a 17-step cleaning process. For a long time after I was really excited to see what effect it would have in the world, but I've seen story after story like this promising the moon and then never (apparently) delivering. I assume this is because no one has figured out how to reliably make it en masse without armies of undergrads and... pencil erasers. Does anybody abreast in the field know what the actual blocker is to graphene's industrial takeoff and if there are any estimates on when we'll see it widely used in the consumer space?
