Well there goes my standard tech support line:
"No, don't worry the icons don't lag your computer, just the programs that are currently running."
I do feel silly now.
- ygra 6y agoWell, technically the Desktop and its icons belong to Explorer, which has to be running. So not too silly. That being said, I'm not sure how many people actually know that the task bar, desktop and improved Alt+Tab experience with previews is part of Explorer; not just the very visible windows that show a folder.
- klyrs 6y agoThis reminds me of the time, about a month after Napster went offline, my boss nuked a co-worker's hard drive because "the music downloads folder was making the computer slow." He typically claimed zero knowledge of computers, and left such matters up to me or his buddy that owned our ISP... but on a weekend, he took matters into his own hands and destroyed a huge compilation of irreplaceable tracks. I'm still offended by the senseless destruction to this day, even if I don't personally value Phish to that degree.
