It all depends on how much/how complex data you have. SQLite is a database after all, you can query it with SQL and do lots of fancy stuff that might be hard to do with regular file formats like JSON or XML. If you just need a config file or only have a small amount of data you can use XML/JSON files that you parse yourself. If you are going to have loads of data that needs some structure (for example messages in a messaging app) i would use SQLite.
