According to the Tampa Bay Times, "The tunnel would only be accessible to electric vehicles, since a major point of construction cost savings would be the tunnel’s lack of ventilation."
I have zero experience with tunneling, and would love someone with experience to correct me. But even if access is restricted to electric vehicles, I'm unclear how the tunnel could get by without ventilation. Leaving aside the lack of exhaust from the vehicles themselves, surely there's the issue of temperature control? And if (God forbid) there's a tunnel collapse or something, you'd still want backup sources of air from the surface?
