I know the basics of make, but I also don’t think I truly grok it. Is there an in-depth book that explains it?

- aequitas 6y agoThe make manual[0] has always been pretty helpful to me, as it explains just about everything completely. And avoiding templated makefiles like you find in C(++) projects, as they compound in complexity very quickly and are bad as an example to how basic and straightforward you can make your makefiles. What really helps is knowing the terminology of certain syntax features so you can quickly reference then, things like: Automatic Variables, (implicit) pattern rules, functions, etc. [0] https://www.gnu.org/software/make/manual/make.html https://www.gnu.org/software/make/manual/make.html
