Some things are essential like medical care to ensure survival, shelter, calories, water, etc. But by and large, we are in the habit of eating and using certain unnecessary items, there is no "need" for any specific food or a private jet or a gas-intensive car. A bit of Stoicism in every human would lead to a lot of useful curbing of expensive habits.
