Lie? What's the intent behind the lie?
To reduce fire extinguisher sales?
The police officer died. So they might have had a stroke as a result of inhaling best spray.
What does that actually change? They're still dead and likely wouldn't have been if the riot didn't happen.
Unless you're arguing that it's natural causes.
Also the officer that commited suicide there isn't a public note, the family is refusing interviews and the police haven't said anything about their reasons.
You're the one making up reasons for their suicide to complain about biased media.

- setr 6y agoThrowing a fire extinguisher into a group of people is a fairly explicit attempt at causing real lasting damage, or at least shows a cavalier disregard for the potential consequences. Pepper spray is a non-lethal tool that the police themselves use, and civilians are told to carry normally as part of their self defense kit, whose primary purpose in life is to temporarily disable without permanent damage — if potential for permanent damage exists, it’s unclear but unlikely that your protesting trump supporter was anymore aware than the basically everyone else who uses one or keeps it around. Throwing a fire extinguisher versus pepper spray paints very different pictures — the violence on Capitol Hill seems to be a little less violent every week.
- viator 6y agoThe intent behind the lie is the same as it always is with commercial media; generate outrage, collect clicks, and therefore sell more advertisements. There's no need to be willfully obtuse here. That is literally their entire business model, and partisan (either side) hyperbole in advance of a proper investigation is more than happy to feed that beast, towards their own ends. The partisans' end goal is always to gain or retain more power. You might want to write these two facts down, if you intend to continue consuming "current events" around politics in the United States.

That seems like a pretty important difference, although I'm not optimistic that minds will change (I mean, how does a good faith participant extrapolate 'insurrection' and 'assassination' from a single murder in the first place?).
