This is where you should turn off
> In the melee, a rioter was captured on video hurling a fire extinguisher at the Capitol police. It struck an officer in the head, giving him a concussion, according to his colleagues. That officer was one of at least two to be assaulted with such a device that day; another, Brian Sicknick, died from his injuries the following day.
This is a lie the NYT told. We've know it's a lie for over a week. CNN retracted it a while back. Since this 'media' is so biased I'll link a biased 'media' on the other side about this - https://thepostmillennial.com/nyt-issues-correction-of-story-claiming-capitol-police-officer-bludgeoned-to-death-with-fire-extinguisher https://thepostmillennial.com/nyt-issues-correction-of-story...
Lets also not forget how the media hounded the Capitol Police for being on the protesters side, driving one to suicide.
- Jonnax 6y agoLie? What's the intent behind the lie? To reduce fire extinguisher sales? The police officer died. So they might have had a stroke as a result of inhaling best spray. What does that actually change? They're still dead and likely wouldn't have been if the riot didn't happen. Unless you're arguing that it's natural causes. Also the officer that commited suicide there isn't a public note, the family is refusing interviews and the police haven't said anything about their reasons. You're the one making up reasons for their suicide to complain about biased media.

- setr 6y agoThrowing a fire extinguisher into a group of people is a fairly explicit attempt at causing real lasting damage, or at least shows a cavalier disregard for the potential consequences. Pepper spray is a non-lethal tool that the police themselves use, and civilians are told to carry normally as part of their self defense kit, whose primary purpose in life is to temporarily disable without permanent damage — if potential for permanent damage exists, it’s unclear but unlikely that your protesting trump supporter was anymore aware than the basically everyone else who uses one or keeps it around. Throwing a fire extinguisher versus pepper spray paints very different pictures — the violence on Capitol Hill seems to be a little less violent every week.
- viator 6y agoThe intent behind the lie is the same as it always is with commercial media; generate outrage, collect clicks, and therefore sell more advertisements. There's no need to be willfully obtuse here. That is literally their entire business model, and partisan (either side) hyperbole in advance of a proper investigation is more than happy to feed that beast, towards their own ends. The partisans' end goal is always to gain or retain more power. You might want to write these two facts down, if you intend to continue consuming "current events" around politics in the United States.
- throwaway894345 6y agoMurder vs manslaughter is a pretty big difference given that the media breathlessly used it to support narratives of an insurrection and certain congresspersons used it to claim that the mob was sent to assassinate her (despite not actually being in the vicinity of the mob). That seems like a pretty important difference, although I'm not optimistic that minds will change (I mean, how does a good faith participant extrapolate 'insurrection' and 'assassination' from a single murder in the first place?).
- phjesusthatguy3 6y agoYour source linked to a NYT story that says it was updated four days after original posting. As if they received new information and reported on it. Your source also says "According to Capitol police, Sicknick later had a stroke. It is now being investigated whether he inhaled bear spray, and whether that may have contributed to his sudden death." Where are your source's sources? And does it matter if Sicknick died from being beaten to death or as a (possible) result of inhaling bear spray?
