- antidaily 15y agoWas on the board, now serves as an advisor.
- dreamdu5t 15y agoWe really need to abandon this "adviser" crap. It means absolutely nothing, and 90% of advisers don't do any advising.
- sahillavingia 15y agoYou need better advisors.
- intended 15y agoHonestly, having this post voted down into oblivion does nothing for newbies who may come here. While his tone may not be the best, a simple explanation or example/link to why you have a reason to disagree would be helpful. This would be doubly productive since a response to his comment went "you need better advisors", which is not the rebuttal we would like to see on HN.

- staunch 15y agoYes, it is the one from 37 signals. He was on their board now an advisor. It looks like he already made $557,721 by selling some stock during Series G. I think that left him with 414,690 shares worth at least $6.5 million and probably a multiple of that by the time he can sell them. I could be reading this incorrectly though. He might end up making more off a dozen board meetings than 10 years of hard work at 37 signals. It's a crazy world.
- smokinn 15y agoWhatever individual 37 Signals people's actual thoughts about VCs and valuations, don't believe that it's necessarily what they write in their blog. Their blog is not an informal discussion medium. They make it out to to be but it isn't. It's marketing. 37 Signals have a vested interest in creating an enemy and drama because that brings them exposure and sales.
- jasonfried 15y agoYou're giving us too much credit.
- smokinn 15y agoFor what it's worth I think you and 37 Signals probably do believe what you say in the blog but given how inflammatory it often is it sets of my inner cynic constantly.
- mattmanser 15y agoIf you think they do believe it why make the bizarre allegation above in the first place?
- smokinn 15y agoThere's a big difference between thinking something is true and thinking something is probable.
- jsavimbi 15y agoWhat's up with @dhh and his sudden Twitter interest regarding Groupon? Are your thoughts aligned with his comments?
- jaxn 15y agoMaybe that will be the end of hearing 37 Signals rail against VC money? I mean, Jason now has $500k in VCs money :)
- bad_user 15y agoI never read an article from them railing about not doing angel investments. Taking money and giving money is not the same thing.
- jasonfried 15y agoFor the record, I didn't invest any money in Groupon. Groupon asked me to be on their board of directors. Compensation for that position was paid in options. That's why I have options/stock in Groupon, not because of an investment. As far as angel investing goes, I have not made any angel investments to date. The only private company I've ever invested in is my own company, 37signals. That's not to say I wouldn't invest in another private company, I just haven't so far.
