At the end of the day, self-awareness is the highest sign of cognition and intelligence. OK, thats not quite true, but they do use it to test self-consciousness in animals. I think it's important because, even if you have some really good ideas, and maybe this guy does, if you can't hold a mirror to them they will just end up hitting a wall. Ideas only improve if they can beat themselves up.
