I read this twice, looking for the bit where the author talks about his own experience as a parent of school age children during the pandemic. But actually there's no such part. It's simply built around his own childhood experience of school, filtered by his recollection and adult life. Maybe he does have some lived adult experience to back-up his opinions, but there's no indication of any in this piece. It's just shallow and I'm surprised to see it at the top of HN.

Speaking as a parent of school age children, I want them to go back to school when it is safe to be there because I know that they miss their friends and their school community and the variety of school life. And while they're too considerate to say it, spending a year with their parents 24/7 must certainly suck for them too.
