My personal solution for this is the anti-cloud. Provide open source software that virtually binds all your computing devices and allows restricted sharing with other users. The service portion is security and identity management that retains the minimum user data necessary for billing. The application portion has a unique security model and everything passively syncs and updates in real time. I am nearing completion of the mvp after a year.
