This seems hugely impressive, I wonder how extreme this can be optimized upon to maximize force.
I'm imagining a flying saucer where designed layouts of nanotubes make possible complex flight patterns by precise heating ordered segments to maximize forces in the desired direction.
On these smaller scales I suspect a space laser could provide a low energy waste heat source, along with precision targeting wingtips with known deformation and elasticity temperatures for steering, and you could have a reasonably controllable craft in these previously unmaintainable altitudes.
