I don't like that we call the macronutrient "fat". We don't call protien "muscle". I think we'd be healthier if we officially renamed fat to lipids

- masterofmisc 6y agoIt would be better if "fat" was renamed to "fuel" because that's exactly what it is. Fuel for the body.
- gizmo686 6y agoSo is sugar...
- noir_lord 6y agoProtein as well, Our bodies roughly prefer to burn sugar, fat then protein but if all that's available is protein we'll metabolise that (including our own in starvation scenarios).
- bluGill 6y agoThat preference is at least in part because if you don't burn the sugar it needs to work to store it as fat. Excess fat in the bloodstream isn't a big problem short term like sugar is. (Long term is different )
- aYsY4dDQ2NrcNzA 6y agoAlso ethanol. 7 kcal per gram.
- brianwawok 6y agoBasically rocket fuel for our body on a Friday night.
- mr_toad 6y ago7 calories, not 7000!
- johnwalkr 6y ago1 colloquial or dietary calorie is indeed 1000 scientific calories or 1 kcal.
- quickthrower2 6y agoAnd protein!
- quickthrower2 6y agoWhat about hydrogenated carbon, for extra confusion.

- rco8786 6y agoWe call it "Vitamin F" in our house.
- Geee 6y agoWe should start calling fat people sugar.
- kridsdale1 6y agoJust move to the south.
