Imagine you drive way less in an small gas car (you ride your bike more, use transit, etc) - your net carbon becomes nearly on par with EV ownership. But...what's missing are:
- material flows related to urban living, if that's what it takes for you to use a car less.
- possibly more flying related to urban living, which has a much higher carbon output. (I've made a personal carbon ledger for fun, realized my car carbon output has been negligible compared to flight miles of being an apps engineer).
- the other domains of issues beyond carbon, as offered by things like the planetary boundaries framework - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Planetary_boundaries https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Planetary_boundaries
There's also the problem of 'personalizing' carbon in the framing of all this around a vehicle purchase that doesn't ask harder systemic questions.
