Ask HN: Why hasn't Waze, Google Maps, or Apple Maps integrated weather overlays?
- aurizon 6y agoIs the weather data supplied as open source, with a requirement that any products that uses it must be similarly open??? A lot of this data comes from NASA. If this is the case, any map maker with a fee basis might not want to give their work product away with that sort of strings on it??
- compressedgas 6y agoNot NASA, NOAA.
- aurizon 6y agoThanks, I was not sure of that
- mtmail 6y agoApple acquired darksky weather app last year so they have a weather backend https://www.theapplepost.com/2020/04/01/apple-acquires-popular-weather-app-dark-sky/ https://www.theapplepost.com/2020/04/01/apple-acquires-popul... https://maps.darksky.net/@temperature,2021-2-13,18,-32.328,155.901,12640930?3d https://maps.darksky.net/@temperature,2021-2-13,18,-32.328,1...
- bsradcliffe 6y agoYes, and while I love that this happened, I'm also curious if they're actually working to integrate it into Maps, or simply make Weather more accurate of an app.
- stephenr 6y agoI’m not sure what you mean specifically but if you zoom to a reasonably small area in Apple Maps it does show the current weather conditions for that area, in the bottom right corner.
