I was talking to a manager at a former job, sharing my views about some process issue. She said she appreciated my passion. Which is probably the managerial equivalent of the southern "Well bless your heart." But I took it at face value, and told her that in my opinion passion is only for friends and family. With cancer-curing exceptions, work is just a way to support your family. She was visibly taken aback, and annoyed.
