Free Surface to Air missile simulator from Hungary
- desine 6y agoA "Let's Play" video is available here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cW1rIV5t74o https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cW1rIV5t74o This style of hyper-specialized homebrew software is so fascinating. I wonder if the developer "works in the industry" or somehow has access to the systems, or if it's all pulled from field manuals and the like.

- ckozlowski 6y agoI suspect it's mostly field manuals and exported references. With older systems, it's easier to get hands on those as they've been exported to so many places around the world. I know DCS for example has had trouble getting their hands on manuals for current Russian equipment (there's explicit laws on it that's hampered a lot of their development there), but for older systems, there's a lot you can find outside the country of origin.
- trasz 6y agoDCS folks had problems getting their hands on USA gear as well, one of them got arrested.
- marcodiego 6y agoWhy not open source it?
- mam2 6y agoLets stack an ai agent on it
- chronolitus 6y agoIt's a hard to describe feeling when you discover one of these obscure super-specific projects built out of passion. I guess it's the feeling of my brain reassessing how many amazing hidden gems are out there. Wonderful! I can't help but think a simulator like this would lend itself splendidly to VR.
- JabavuAdams 6y agoYes, and yes! Imagine the progress and creativity that would be unleashed if people were free to do their hobbies full-time, instead of working BS jobs.
