Show HN: Videos with Friends – reaction videos, watch parties and more
Hi HN!
We built Vidberrys (https://vidberrys.com/about) during the pandemic to make it fun for students to watch school videos with their friends. It is evolving as a place for videos with friends in general. Here’s what you can do on Vidberrys:
- Produce reaction videos: Quickly produce reaction videos with friends for any video without having to fiddle with complex software like iMove or After Effects. Experience your friends' reactions while watching your favorite shows. Creating a reaction video today is a cumbersome process to say the least.
- Synchronized watch parties: watch videos as a social activity while video chatting with friends and with a single remote control (pause, ff, playlist). Existing web conference technologies like Zoom or Google meet cannot be used for social watching as it degrades the quality of audio/video significantly.
- Host school watch parties: Have fun watching school videos with your friends and do homework faster. Today, students do not have an easy way for group study or group notes.
We are imagining a videos with friends platform at Vidberrys, users can start a channel and build their friends and fan network and in the future monetize their video content.
We love to get your feedback. Try https://vidberrys.com. Note: Vidberrys runs only in a Chrome browser today. No mobile device support yet. You can send feedback directly from the web site (from the left panel link).
This is an alpha release of Vidberrys. If you run into any issues, you can reach us from the site.

- mike500 6y agoI used to use cytube but this is much better! Great to see someone is building this idea further. I am going to watch a comedy show with family and check it out. Are people mostly doing private watch parties on the site ?
- shikha1 6y agoMost are private watch parties. There are several folks running regular schedule and that is public especially around school content and sports.
- mike500 6y agoI created a reaction video for a Youtube video, paused the main video while I continued my reaction. I see that you recreated the pause event in the playback. How are you doing this. Are you creating a new video processing the two streams ?
- shikha1 6y agoWe have an in memory database in the back end that logs the events and we are playing back the event in real time. Having said that we have a new feature that allows you to export the complete reaction video with multiple streams into a single video file so you can export it back to Youtube or other platforms.
- mike500 6y agoNicely done! I can see myself using this. You should market this to Youtubers who number in millions and are churning out lots and lots of reaction videos. I can't think of any other tool that does this today
- shikha1 6y agoThanks, I am looking for specific ideas on how to reach out to this group. My best idea now is to scour the web
