Just heard on the news tonite that BC has its first case of a new one they are calling the Nigerian variant, I find it remarkable that it is somehow OK to name variants after countries but the WHO spent precious time and effort comming up with COVID-19 specifically to prevent stigmatizing China.
- sigmaprimus 6y agoI really don't understand why people are upset with my comment. This is right off the WHO web site >>>>WHO, in consultation and collaboration with the World Organisation for Animal Health (OIE) and the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO), has identified best practices for the naming of new human diseases, with the aim to minimize unnecessary negative impact of disease names on trade, travel, tourism or animal welfare, and avoid causing offence to any cultural, social, national, regional, professional or ethnic groups https://www.who.int/publications/i/item/WHO-HSE-FOS-15.1 https://www.who.int/publications/i/item/WHO-HSE-FOS-15.1 I mean if what I was saying was untrue that would be one thing but the facts are all laid out on the WHO messaging archive. https://www.who.int/director-general/speeches/detail/16 https://www.who.int/director-general/speeches/detail/16 The name was announced on Feb 11th The WHO didn't even declare the pandemic for another month and only after CNN did so. https://www.cnn.com/2020/03/09/health/coronavirus-pandemic-gupta/index.html https://www.cnn.com/2020/03/09/health/coronavirus-pandemic-g... This only happened a year ago, don't be fooled by the powers that be. Those lights really are dimmer!!
