I'm most comfortable coding in a unix environment, but I built/bought a windows computer to play video games on, and I'm too lazy to either install a linux distro on here, or setup a dev environment using WSL, etc. Also, I don't really have any projects in mind that are grabbing my fancy.
- acdw 6y agoSame, except I have to use Windows without an Admin account at work .. tho you'd be surprised what I can get done in that box!
- tootahe45 6y agoWhat about using vmware workstation to run a Linux VM? i find it useful to keep dev stuff separate and have a disposable OS when i install too much junk.
- moozilla 6y agoI was in a similar spot, except with the addition that I gave up on installing a Linux VM/WSL because my gaming laptop came with Windows 10 Home (which doesn't support Hyper-V) and I didn't want to shell out $100. However, recently I gave it another shot, as WSL2 apparently works just fine on Windows 10 Home, and I was surprised how easy it was to set up. Took me less than an hour to get WSL2 set up and hooked into VSCode with all my preferred settings. I recommend giving it a shot next time you have some inspiration.
