I did some of the Advent of Code 2020 challenges in both js and Rust. For one of them, the js solution took minutes to finish, while the same algorithm in rust finished in <200 ms. I could probably have optimized the js solution to remove a bunch of allocations- it must have been the gc-but it was really surprising with the speed-up.
