While I totally agree that Rust is a great language the point I got from this article is more about how fast NodeJS has become over the years, the work done on V8 is astounding!

The performance of JavaScript VMs is without a doubt in my mind one of our most incredible technological achievements. The JVM may have more hours of work spent (largely due to academic attention) but it seems that JS and Java have roughly the same performance which is outstanding when you consider how much more dynamic JS is.

  Just as another data point, trufflejs (that is GraalVM’s implementation of JavaScript on top of a JVM written in Java running on top a traditional JVM) has comparable peak performance to V8.
