I guess there was little actual thinking on what that means for an economy based mainly on services and in particular financial services. The UK lost any chance to get a good trade deal when the prime minister said he'd make the country a tax haven if the EU doesn't sign a deal and introduced legislation breaking the agreement before the agreement was even in force.
