Learn to code?
I don't have much sympathy for journalists, especially because of how blasé they can be with industries shutting down or laying off workers.
- curmudgeon22 6y agoFair enough, I think there are other interesting considerations, chiefly and overall decline in journalism quality.
- sharkweek 6y agoI have a few friends who are journalists/reporters at news sites of varying prestige. They are all a fairly cynical bunch. I think the industry turns the brightest and bushiest tailed into absolute curmudgeons.
- treeman79 6y agoDabbled in it in college. 20 years ago as an online editor. At time I hadn’t yet formed strong opinions about left or right politics. I was shocked when dealing with an advisor a major paper on the tone changed to running hit pieces, then “moving on” when complaints came in. Basically anything that happened before current day was supposed to be forgotten or dismissed. Always moving forward with no responsibility. Our old advisor came back and it went to more normal pieces. These days most news articles are more hit/propaganda pieces. So long as you stay in the lines you are encouraged to hurt people as much as possible.
- akhilcacharya 6y agoHow blasé? Which ones specifically are you referring to? From what I’m aware these journalists typically cover European business news. Who exactly did they want to learn to code?
