Can't get computer to connect to GSM modem
I'm a student working on a project that involves interacting with a GSM modem via AT commands. I've been having trouble connecting my computer to the modem.
What I know: The modem is on, the drivers are installed, a sim card is in one of the modem's ports, and I see the COM ports in the device manager.
However, when I try to use puTTy to enter with serial, it launches, but it never works. On one of the ports, it lets me type, but it never responds when I use the command "AT". On all the others, it simply won't let me type anything.
I have been stuck on this for a while and any suggestions would be appreciated.
- JPLeRouzic 6y agoThe computer port speed is not set to the same speed than the GSM modem?
- draag48 6y agoI really appreciate your reply. How would I know what speed the GSM modem requires and where in my computer do I change that?
- ev1 6y agoIs this a known-good modem? There are a ton of cheaper ones on Aliexpress/eBay that don't actually work as a direct-GSM modem with controllable raw device but instead requires some borderline-incompetent Windows-XP era setup.exe install proprietary protocol driver.
- draag48 6y agoThe company said it would work with PuTTy. I did have to download a driver, though. I'm not sure.
- rachelbythebay 6y agoMake sure putty isn’t expecting hardware flow control if your device doesn’t support it. Otherwise it’ll probably refuse to write to the port. And yeah, rotate through the available speeds if necessary, but this sort of thing should be documented.
