There's a big difference. Having to find an exchange and hook everything up to my bank account is a hassle (especially when I have no need to do it). Sending BTC to somebody using an Android app isn't and is something I have done frequently (e.g. donating BTC to parties who have helped me or offer something I enjoy). I don't want a world where I have to transfer the BTC to USD to use it, I want a world where I can just use it. MasterCard acting an an intermediary is fine with me, somebody has to bootstrap this.
