- AndrewBissell 6y agoYou've got to love NPR's precious concluding paragraph: "Experts had expected retaliation by the Chinese government against BBC reporters in China, even though the BBC is editorially independent of the British government."

- simonblack 6y agoThis is no longer the era of Western control over China, no longer the era of the Opium Wars where Western countries could act with impunity with respect to China. The world of today is no longer the world of ten years ago. In ten more years, the world of today will be completely changed again. China has as much strength to do to Western countries what the Western countries do to China. The Balance of Power has changed. But Western countries are having great difficulty in recognising that from now on, every action is likely to have an opposite reaction, and their own actions are very likely to lead to shooting themselves in the foot. May we live in interesting times.
