OS X has some shitty discoverability. I was required to use a macbook as my work system for a little over two years, and I never discovered those. Would it not make sense to just put these kinds of things in the open? Why not have a fourth taskbar button? I don't remember seeing an option for maximize but not full screen anywhere, so I would just resize windows until I slapped Spectacle onto the system. Not that I'm a windows user. I have a number of complaints related to usability on Windows as well.
