Show HN: Spacelift – first all-in-one CI/CD for Infrastructure as Code
Hi HN!
We are the team behind Spacelift (https://spacelift.io/). Spacelift is the CI/CD for infrastructure-as-code, be it Terraform, Pulumi, CloudFormation or Ansible (coming soon), and policy as code. It enables collaboration, automates manual work and compliance, and lets teams customize and automate their workflows.
Here’s what you can do with Spacelift
- Build sophisticated Git-based workflows
- Use Open Policy Agent to declare rules around your infrastructure, access control, state changes, and more
- Author and maintain reusable modules for your organization; we even have a full CI solution for modules to make sure they’re healthy
- Declare who can log in (and under what circumstances) and what their level of access to each of the managed projects should be (SAML 2.0 SSO out of the box!) using login and access policies respectively
- Use Spacelift’s trigger policies to create arbitrary workflows and dependencies spanning multiple infrastructure-as-code stacks
- Manage stacks, contexts, modules, and policies in a declarative way using Terraform or Pulumi
Before Spacelift, we built bespoke solutions (e.g., Geopoiesis, https://www.reddit.com/r/Terraform/comments/fu6pj1/geopoiesisio_anyone_knows_something_about_it/), currently used by two of the largest European scaleups.
In the past few months, we’ve been onboarding our first customers and making sure everything works as expected. You can check out our starter repo at https://github.com/spacelift-io/terraform-starter. It's an easy way to learn all of Spacelift’s capabilities in 15 minutes without tapping into your own cloud resources. We’d love your thoughts on our approach and anything that has worked or hasn’t worked for you.

- mritchie712 6y agoCan you talk a bit about the job market / your hiring process in Poland? I'm always interested to hear about the benefits and challenges of a remote office.
- cube2222 6y agoSure, we're actually hiring all over Europe for engineering positions, and in US for sales and solutions engineering, though most of us are in Poland currently. To be honest, it's as hard to find good talent as anywhere, but there definitely is a lot of good technical talent in Poland. There's also a lot of engineering offices of various big companies here. A nice benefit being we can offer very good salaries in comparison to the local market. Our candidate-finding process is basically HN as well as recruiting agencies for now. As for the hiring process itself, it’s an intro interview, take-home assignment (2h) and finally a technical interview where we ask the candidate to add a feature to the assignment. Overall, 5 hours tops. Remote work has definitely been a great success so far, nobody's really missing the office. We're mostly hiring mid-senior engineers currently, so folks are usually able to work very independently of each other, other than the occasional pair-programming. It's been really fun to play with the VS Code remote pair programming features too! (check them out if you haven't yet)
- mritchie712 6y agoThanks for the thoughtful response! I have played with VS Code remote. I can also recommend Tuple [0] which we've been using (linux version coming soon). 0 - https://tuple.app/ https://tuple.app/
- robk 6y agoThese guys are top notch. The engineering cofounder is modest but was a longtime Google SRE.
- akh 6y agoThis looks very cool! I'm seeing a new wave of cloudnative CI/CD tools. What's your take on Terraform vs Pulumi long term?
- cube2222 6y agoI personally think both have their place, and it's partly a preference thing. Terraform is a nice constrained domain specific language, Pulumi is very expressive, but that comes with a cost. So we'll see how that comes out. However, the Pulumi AWS integration with lambda which they call Crosswalk is definitely quite magical. It provides you simple primitives and let's you create lambdas as inline JavaScript lambda expressions, handling closures and all referenced infrastructure resources. Building a small project with it which involved a few lambdas, queues, cloudwatch rules and a dynamodb table really felt like the future is here.
- anderiv 6y agoYou and the team deserve massive kudos alone for not hiding SAML/SSO functionality away in only your paid tiers. Thank you for this - it’s an example I wish more companies would follow.
- michal_p 6y agoYou're doing a great job!
