But then you are paying oracle.
- pjmlp 6y agoThere is a reason why open source donations don't achieve the quality of JIT and GC implementations of commercial software. Something like Graal would never succeed with FOSS, late nighters and weekend programming.
- rapsey 6y agoTrue but and if it had a clear pricing model it would be fine. Unfortunately Oracle's pricing is closer to extortion. If you're already under their boot it's fine I guess, but anyone not under it is crazy to volunteer to do so.
- pjmlp 6y agoI own a developer account since 2000, their prices are perfectly fine for the corporations paying for DB2, Informix, SharePoint, SQL Server, SiteCore, AXM, SAP,.... Licenses are usually not where it hurts on corporation scale projects.
- kaba0 6y agoYou can use the free version of Graal just fine, can’t you?
- rapsey 6y agoSure you can. Then when it becomes an integral part of your companies tech stack, Oracle gets dollar signs for eyes.
- The_rationalist 6y agoWhat are you talking about? GraalVM CE is free and open source, the EE optimizations are just an optional bonus
