If it's here to stay, isn't it time for the public to get to have some say in their own risk analysis calculation? Isn't it time to perhaps give some weight to the numerous studies that say lockdowns don't work? Maybe time to push Vitamin D supplementation, and get a really concrete strategy around treatment with promising medicines like Ivermectin?
Right now, where I live, we have an amazingly inconsistent set of rules. I went out for dinner on the weekend, which means sitting in a room with like 70 people, no masks. This is fine. Sitting with people in my back yard is not fine, apparently, whether we wear masks or not. There's no consistency at all. How is anyone supposed to respect those rules?
How is anyone supposed to be compliant, knowing that compliance is based around some ridiculous, inconsistent, non-scientific approach? What the fuck sense does it make for me to wear a mask while walking around a restaurant, but not when I am sitting down? How is it OK for my kids to be at school with no mask with their friends, but those same friends can't come over to my house for the afternoon?
Especially difficult is following a set of rules that necessarily includes the realpolitik of estimating just how compliant people will be - in the sense that they push harder than they need to so that those skirting compliance of the rules on paper are still within compliance of the unwritten desired behaviour?
At some point, if the restrictions don't loosen up, I'm going to have to start ignoring the rules like so many others already are. The cost to my sanity and to my children's normal social upbringing is too high, in comparison to a sickness we will almost certainly sail through like any other flu or bad cold we've had in the past.
Those who are at higher risk can cloister themselves away like hermits and avoid everyone else until they get their limited-efficacy vaccine. Those of us who are healthy and can survive what is ultimately just a bad common cold for most should move back on to life as usual, albeit modified for a bit of hygiene that was always missing in public life. I'm glad everyone is washing their hands a bit more, for sure.
- lm28469 6y agoI was ok following the dumb blanket restrictions for a while but the more I learn about my country's decisions the more I understand I'm ruled by complete morons who have no idea what they should do. If we're not rapidly moving toward a smarter handling of the situation I'll be in the streets for the next anti restrictions protests, the very same I was criticizing for the past months.
- core-questions 6y agoI'm not one to take to the streets; it is my belief that protest is mostly useless, or worse, is actually just a victory parade for the ideology in power. I think civil disobedience makes more sense.
