I do a lot of internal investigations as a lawyer and digital forensic examiner. Know what? Employees do a lot of dodgy things and also tend to waste a lot of time at work. The bad ones do spoil it for the good/innocent ones. But unfortunately there are plenty people trying to exfiltrate data, run competing business from work, do side deals, frame their co-workers, claim harassment, etc that it’s a total shit show and companies are in many cases just trying to not deal with total assholes at every moment. And remote work made it worse.

- tharkun__ 6y agoNot the parent here. However, anecdote wise, I can say that we are seeing this at my workplace. The guys that we sorta knew were the 'bad apples' back in the office really don't seem to work any better remote. We're seeing bad performance and one asks oneself WTF they're doing with all their time all day long. Not having to worry about a co-worker looking over their shoulder does seem to make things worse even. On the other hand I have seen my own output and work-life balance skyrocket for example and I can think of a few other people where this would be true as well. So I guess it made it worse in both cases. Bad people doing worse than before and remote work makes it worse for the good guys too because now we have to deal with surveillance even though we're doing good work.

- naveen99 6y agoYou need the sociopaths to make any progress in a business; along with the clueless and the losers. You seem to be advocating for a clueless only employee pool. Your clients don’t actually want what you are asking for. By the way, you are just doing cya for them. They have already decided to fire the people you are investigating, and not for the reasons you are going to find.
