You Should Delete Your WhatsApp ASAP
- mikece 6y agoYou should delete Facebook, FB Messenger, Instagram, and all Google apps as well... but people have long since decided that privacy doesn't matter to them.
- Bakary 6y agoI kinda disagree with the implied notion here that it's necessarily the wrong choice to make. Part of public life and social interaction has moved online, and social norms are evolving to reflect some of that. Previously taboo subjects and lifestyles are now openly discussed and embraced. In the end, people just want to live their lives and want tools that help do that without interruptions or problems. Often, the truly disturbing realization for many is not that their information is out there but that people end up not caring as much about them as they thought they would. The scale of their insignificance hits them like a sledgehammer, where it previously just was a purely intellectual concept. I don't mean to say that privacy is not an important goal. Surveillance capitalism as detailed by Zuboff and co. is one of the major problems the current young to semi-young generations will have to deal with. But it's not a case of enlightened vs. dumb but rather a different utility calculus.
- freebuju 6y agoNot saying you are wrong. But the issue is bigger than deleting the apps. Some of them have become inseparable digital tools which are part and parcel of every day life, work, play and to a some extent human existence.
