The first reconstruction example in the preview PDF is going to haunt my nightmares for eternity. The original stimulus is a female face and the reconstruction looks like a horrible probe-wielding alien abductor.
- TT3351 6y agoIf I'm not mistaken the source material actually has a probe wielding alien of some kind, you may be seeing that
- anonymfus 6y agoThat is not probe, but a prosthetic replacement for their exobrain. The Ood are generally good in Doctor Who, it's humans who are horrible abductors for them. If that image is from "Pond Life" mini series as suggested by the title on the first two frames on Figure 2, that's the butler of the eponymous family. I suggest you to just watch the relevant episodes as an exposure therapy: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ood#Appearances https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ood#Appearances
- anonymfus 6y agoAnother idea is to watch Doctor Who crew performing five hundred miles song, as there is a funny dancing Ood in that video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2c6qENWh2jQ https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2c6qENWh2jQ Or may be the video about how that design was made, as David Tenant describes that their heads are very nice to touch: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-X79GXlpIfM https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-X79GXlpIfM
- jgtrosh 6y agoThis is the picture: https://www.biorxiv.org/content/biorxiv/early/2021/02/03/2021.02.02.429430/F1.large.jpg https://www.biorxiv.org/content/biorxiv/early/2021/02/03/202... Edit: I just realized from the other pictures that they're frames from Doctor Who, making the resulting aliens somewhat fitting.
