Things I Learned from My Dad
- ggm 6y agoA great list. Not to detract from the awfulness of his fathers death, mesolithioma can happen because you stood too close to somebody cutting construction boards or drilling a fibro-cement roof, or working on a stone bench. It is indeed possible it was 9/11 but it's equally likely it stems from a long forgotten childhood incident in a home many years downstream. Or, wartime service, with asbestos used on ships for pipe lagging. Or, at university, like mine in Yorkshire which hurriedly removed fireproof linings from the student halls in every bedroom cupboard. I discussed this with an epidemiologist on the Australian army war compensation health board, relating to rates of testicular and other cancers in ww2 vets: they were unsure if it was more than ubiquitous smoking, but were confident the vets were encouraged to smoke with free cigarettes on tap from the PX and the state had a vicarious liability. Basically these kinds of cancers can be a crap shoot of age, gene expression and circumstances. But.. overall: great advice. I hope I can pass on a list like this when my time comes (59yo)
