On the surface, a cesspool dedicated to efficiently, and effortlessly, building and curating your own bubble. Terrible for humanity, and for everyone involved in the "discussions."
Dig deeper, and it's mostly porn.
If you zoom into any random community, it's probably porn. If it's not porn, it's some curated and heavily modded bubble forum for like minded individuals to reinforce what they already believe.
It's unfortunate that Reddit ever added comments, or karma.
- downvotemore 6y agoIn the same way that you described reddit communities, HN is essentially a tech bubble. On these platforms, anything that challenges the echo chamber’s status quo gets flagged or downvoted into oblivion. It has nothing to do with rules or content guidelines, and everything to do with opinions and emotions. The downvote button needs to be removed entirely, because high karma users don’t know any more than the rest of us (other than how to be addicted to a screen).
