I've always hated those brackets. I never know why they've bracketed the word and what it's supposed to mean. At least now I know it's purpose, but it's still confusing. I absolutely agree with the author's points.
- unethical_ban 6y agoWell now you know: It is to provide clarification, particularly with pronouns that have less context when one part of a quote is lifted into another conversation/article.
- hnarn 6y agoDoesn’t help to know why it’s done if you think it’s wrong. Brackets are already used for non-destructive purposes and this example is destructive.
