The introduction of https://software.intel.com/sites/default/files/managed/4d/2a/control-flow-enforcement-technology-preview.pdf https://software.intel.com/sites/default/files/managed/4d/2a... has as much detail as I could ask for. Seems the GCC flag only enables the Intel implementation for now
