I'll never understand why there is not that many pro audio applications on FreeBSD. Its OSS seems to be lot simpler and nicer than all the n+1 systems I see in the linux world...
- jolmg 6y agoBecause potential user base is even smaller than on Linux is my guess.
- jcelerier 6y agoThe problem is that the OSS model of needing to call read/write for audio I/O is pretty hard to fit with the expected pro audio model of "get a callback called when data is ready", likely through some hardware interruption.
- trasz 6y agoOSS supports mmap, at least on FreeBSD.
