- Wowfunhappy 6y agoI wonder to what extent this is all just hardware dependent...
- venamresm__ 6y agoIt is mostly hardware dependent. Most people don't have a clue what they are talking about. The software layer is only there to take care of buffering going towards the hardware and conversions that needs to happen such as resampling. When it comes to low-latency, the difference lies in how that buffer is handled. Otherwise you can always play in bit-perfect mode where no software changes anything in the stream. I gave a small overview of it in this section: https://venam.nixers.net/blog/unix/2021/02/07/audio-stack.html#analog-to-digital--digital-to-analog-adc--dac https://venam.nixers.net/blog/unix/2021/02/07/audio-stack.ht...
- oilbagz 6y agoI concur, Ubuntu Studio is an amazing user experience out of the box. After install, everything is onboard and just works. Not to mention, neither Mac or Windows come anywhere NEAR the awesomeness that is Zynthian .. and if anything demonstrates the amazing flexibility and power of Audio on Linux, its the Zynthian system. http://zynthian.org/ http://zynthian.org/ Simply amazing audio!
- ungamedplayer 6y ago> I don't want to spend my time digging through ancient forum posts on why jack/pulse can't "just work" This means "I don't want to think about it" installing a whole distro is way too much work for someone with this attitude.
