The best advise about security you will ever get: Don't take security advise from software developers. I cannot stress that enough. I worked in the security domain from the military for about 10 years as an Army Reservist while simultaneously launching my career as a software developer in the corporate world. I have the rare experience of working in both worlds simultaneously yet separately. I have passed the Security+, CISSP, and CASP exams each on the first attempt without taking boot camps. Taking security advise from software developers is like taking marriage advise from some guy at the bar who is looking for his fourth wife.
