A friend of mine was part of the AZ trials, the control wasn't a placebo because lack of side effects would let the person know which group they were in. Instead it was some other common vaccine that would produce similar side effects as the real one.
- quantgenius 6y agoThis was the case with all the trials, not just the AZ one. However, there was a difference in side effects between the vaccinated and controls in all three. The difference was larger for the Moderna/Pfizer vaccines. Also, there wasn't one AZ trial. There were 8 or 9 in different countries. But for reasons only known to AZ/Oxford, their studies are based on data only from 2 and part of the data from a third.
