The New National American Elite
- yuppie_scum 6y agoI read this whole article and there’s some good historical context in here. But the conclusion of the article is “well, you have to act woke to get elected.” So then how the hell did Trump, Greene, MCConnell, Graham et all get elected?
- rektide 6y agoI generally support the article somewhat but ahhh the both sides ism doesn't ring true. > Progressives who equate class with money naturally fall into the mistake of thinking you can reduce class differences by sending lower-income people cash—in the form of a universal basic income, for example. I don't think this is fair or right or on target. I don't think anyone sees ubi as addressing the stratospheric stratification of society. But right now almost no one has the luxury of trying things they want, things they think could be good. I see memes about coming from a wealthy family being the indicator for start up success regularly. and it's true. because few can commit themselves to good causes. we all entail ourselves into massive entities, huge giants, that will give us quality of life, but we give up hopes & dreams. ubi doesn't do away with the imbalance. but it permits more people to chase, to try to do, what they feel called to, what they think is a good opportunity for the world.
