- brg1007 6y agoPretty common maybe, but skiing at 2500 - 3000 m on slopes covered in sand made today a very unique experience .
- personlurking 6y agoUsed to get Saharan dust in Puerto Rico (when I lived there). Thin layer of black dust throughout the apartment that had to be cleaned every 4 days or so.
- eloff 6y agoAre you sure it was dust from the Sahara? I used to get this in Panama, I always assumed it was soot from traffic and fires.
- personlurking 6y agoI know Saharan dust does reach Puerto Rico but after looking up the soot theory, it seems more plausible. I even found two local articles in Spanish about it (soot).
- chomp 6y agoWe get the Saharan dust almost every summer here in Houston, Texas. Makes for some great sunsets: https://www.reddit.com/r/houston/comments/hf5btx/buffalo_bayou_in_2018_during_a_saharan_dust_event/ https://www.reddit.com/r/houston/comments/hf5btx/buffalo_bay... Here’s satellite showing its massive reach: https://www.nasa.gov/feature/goddard/2020/nasa-noaa-s-suomi-npp-satellite-analyzes-saharan-dust-aerosol-blanket https://www.nasa.gov/feature/goddard/2020/nasa-noaa-s-suomi-...
