Why Nuclear Tanks Could Have Been the Ultimate Nuclear Nightmare
- dredmorbius 6y agoPoor editing: The four-man vehicle would have weighed 25 tons, with the turret weighing 15 tons and the turret only 10. That's either an incredibly indecisive turret, or one in strong denial about its weight problem.
- DuskStar 6y agoMentioning the specific model of gun proposed for the gun while omitting what kind of reactor was proposed is a bit of an odd choice, too. (How could a nuclear powerplant only get 4k miles in range? Not an RTG, since those are measured in years. Some kind of subcritical mass with an external neutron source, then? What kind of hideously razor-thin margins could lead to that?)
- jjk166 6y agoHere [0] is a much better post on nuclear tank concepts which actually cites primary sources: [0] https://stalker6delta.tumblr.com/post/163384858966/for-vartoc-since-he-requested-the-tv-8-and/amp https://stalker6delta.tumblr.com/post/163384858966/for-varto... Details especially about the nuclear power plants are scarce on account of there not being any details - these were all nothing but concepts presented at a tank design conference.
