This sounds like hyperbole. Amazon has a $15/hour minimum wage and a number of benefits not offered by other companies for unskilled labor. It also applies to seasonal workers apparently: https://www.aboutamazon.com/news/workplace/amazon-raises-minimum-wage-to-15-for-all-u-s-employees https://www.aboutamazon.com/news/workplace/amazon-raises-min...
I do think that this gesture may be something only they can afford, and I also think that Amazon should be broke up because they are immune to competition. But I feel like the characterization of Bezos as a robber baron and claim that his wealth is a result of his workers’ poverty has no basis in reality.
- ggm 6y agoBezos' wealth absolutely relates to rates of pay and conditions of his workers. If you are working for amazon in an office, you're not the victim. If you like being tired all the time, wearing a daiper at work, and body searches, for minimum wage (yes, $15 is above legal minimum. Do you really think this is good pay?) Then go work in an Amazon fulfilment centre and report back. Bezos can't spend his money. He'll die before he can realise the value of his money. Gates is giving ALL of his money away. Whats Bezos doing?
