What kind of dialogue are you looking to foster with comments like this? Seems to me, this is deliberately provocative and sensational to spark outrage.

- Noos 6y agoThere is no dialogue here about drug issues, its all "Drug war bad! Drugs are good!" It gets monotonous and I honestly don't see why it should be discussed here; there is nothing to spark curiosity about this subject like dang likes to go on about when reminding people to be civil. You either repeat the tired old "yay, unjust laws gone!" or do what? I think marijuana is a pointless drug that makes you stupider when you use it. If people are willing to risk jail over something so useless to the point where we need to legalize stupidity, well that doesn't say much about us, does it?

- markdown 6y ago> I think marijuana is a pointless drug that makes you stupider when you use it. What about alcohol?
- the_only_law 6y agoJust my experience with these people, there seem to be a few categories. 1. They also oppose alcohol being legal. I used to work with one guy who told me he wished prohibition was still in place. Gotta admit, I can at least respect this person for some logical consistency (although he was in support of medical marijuana) 2. Similar to the first camp, but tend bring up how making alcohol illegal isn’t possible because of how embedded it is culturally already. 3. People who buy into the old propaganda that marijuana is some super dangerous drug on par with meth or heroin, best just to ignore these types. I have a family member who swear up and down that marijuana “destroyed his family” yet fails to see that alcohol actually did that years decades later.
- Sohcahtoa82 6y agoNow the question is which type are the other commenters, Animats and Noos?
- hourislate 6y agoJust think of all the people who would be alive today if they had access to legal Cannabis instead of prescribed Narcotic Pain Killers.
- hntrader 6y agoI'm sceptical that marijuana is good for people's health, there's some correlational evidence linking teenage use to cognitive deficits in later age. But I also realize that there's health benefits for certain groups of adults and concede that I'm no expert. Irrespective, I don't think making it illegal is sensible. It's too costly, too authoritarian, and all in the pursuit of deterring a victimless crime. In my view, fast food is a far bigger public health threat than pot use would ever amount to, given obesity prevalence and the number of people who die from cardiac arrest, but we never hear of attempts to ban that?
- visarga 6y agoFast food just makes you fatter. Social networks are full of lies and rage inducing content. Web is full of tracking. Alcohol is a worse drug than pot, but legal. Tobacco - legal, even though it causes so much death. Why are people still using them? Because between black and white there are many shades. People should be entrusted with their own judgement, instead of taking rules from the likes of you.
