Microsoft suspends donations for politicians who tried to overturn 2020 election
- dan-robertson 6y agoMight as well change it to their own release: https://blogs.microsoft.com/on-the-issues/2021/02/05/changes-to-political-giving/ https://blogs.microsoft.com/on-the-issues/2021/02/05/changes... They’re only going to promise to stop that until 2022. I wonder if they will ask for their money back from those campaigns they’ve already donated to since the election too. The weirdest thing is that they seem to think they can get away with just putting “voluntary” in the name and basically carrying on as before. It was voluntary before yet somehow they managed to convince employees to give to it, so are they adding that because people thought that it was compulsory for employees? I feel like it’s either trying to quell some internal “we’ve been tricked into giving movement and this PAC isn’t representative of the employees who pay into it” movement, or they’re trying to distance the company’s public image from a bunch of donations which oppose their stated corporate values, as if people will think that the voluntary contributors are driving the choice of donations (well I guess the executives all make “voluntary” donations.) I find that harder to believe.
