Show HN: Inlets 3.0 RC1
- alexellisuk 6y ago(Disclaimer, it's the inlets author here) Given all the stars the project has been receiving lately, and the interest in the far east, we've released a new RC for inlets OSS bringing the version to 3.0 Check out the release notes for some of what's changing. Primarily - a focus on awareness for security and best practice, along with more flexible options for binding ports and adapters. The control plane is where tunnel clients connect The data plane is where end-users connect to access tunneled services. inlets OSS supports HTTP, REST and Websockets.
- jarym 6y agoCongrats on this - I’ve been meaning to try it for a while. Extremely useful piece of software
- bithavoc 6y agoFriendly reminder that Inlets != ngrok[0], if you can afford to pay for Inlets Pro please do so, the author also uses those resources to keep the lights on, contributing to other exciting projects as well. - alexellisuk 6y agoReally appreciate the support bithavoc. Personal licenses for inlets PRO can be used at home and work now, this is a relatively recent change. inlets PRO is also in RC and has a new feature coming with automatic Let's Encrypt support - it's already making things easier for my personal use of it.
- inshadows 6y ago> if you can afford to pay for Inlets Pro please do so LOL. This is just a SSH forwarding. :-) I suggest you rather pay https://devnull-as-a-service.com/ https://devnull-as-a-service.com/.
- iampims 6y ago“If you need encryption upgrade to PRO plan for $$$” is appalling.
- sigmonsays 6y agoI dont fully understand the context here. They wont give you an encrypted tunnel unless you're paying for PRO? If true, This defeats the entire point of this tool imho and I will not pay for such a basic feature.
- alexellisuk 6y agoIt's always been this way, you just need to use it with a reverse proxy. inlets OSS doesn't have the features to add TLS to your websocket. The change just makes it more obvious to people who were using it without reading the instructions
- alexellisuk 6y agoIt says: you probably need encryption, so set up a proxy, or get the PRO edition to do it for you. A reverse proxy is easy to configure and how most OSS users use inlets - this project has 8k stars, and lots of downloads. It turns out that developers don't mind setting that up themselves.
- merb 6y agoit's so easy to build encryption into inlets oss. and the license is really really friendly to do so. if you really want to use it pay the author or do it yourself.
